Nathan Bares, originally from Elkhart Lake, WI, started singing the day he was born. Nathan grew up in a musically inclined family with a choir teacher for a mother. He sang in musicals throughout high school. Nathan made plans to attend UW-Oshkosh after high school. During his senior year in high school Nathan met a friend named Shannon Brunet.

In the summer of 1997 Nathan and Shannon formed a pop/rock band called Raza. Through out the next 6 years Nathan and Shannon would be in and out of bands, but would always end up writing new music together. In 2002 the two would unite once again to form an acoustic duo called This Side Up. As This Side Up Nathan and Shannon released a 6 song EP called Desirae in 2002. Because of the number of bands already with the same name, they decided to change the name to Drops of Blue. In 2006 Drops of Blue released a 7 song EP called Seven Stories Tall. Since then, Drops of Blue has been supporting Seven Stories Tall by performing all over the Midwest including some of the top venues in Chicago, St. Paul/ Minneapolis and Milwaukee.
